It may have taken a 10 year break, but British Airways is reinstating flights to Fuerteventura from December 2014.

The flights will operate from Gatwick twice a week, all year round and start from 13th December. The route will be operated on Airbus A319 and A320 short-haul aircraft, which the airline announced would be receiving a new look in the cabin, featuring stylish new seats.

British Airways already serves the Canary Islands with flights to Lanzarote leaving twice a week and Tenerife flying seven times a week.

The PM goes to Lanzarote for Easter

The UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, has travelled with his family to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands for the Easter holidays.

The Camerons are understood to be taking a self-catering vacation at a holiday villa in the centre of the island, just outside of San Bartolome.

Spanish police sources confirmed to local media that there is a security plan in place for the PM’s visit to the volcanic island, one of the most popular of winter sun destinations.

The visit looks set to do wonders for tourism as Director of Lanzarote’s tourist board, Hector Fernandez, said the PM’s visit was an “important pat on the back” for Lanzarote’s reputation as a holiday destination.

Here at Villaseek we have lots of holiday villas on Lanzarote, and across the Canary Islands. Whatever your political bent, there’s no denying the beauty of the place as a great choice for a holiday!

Shift in desired destinations for 2014
Apr 10th, 2014 by elisa

The latest TripAdvisor Choice Awards for Destinations show a marked shift in desired city breaks for 2014.

Traditional destinations such as Paris, Barcelona and New York have all dropped significantly down the rankings, making way for more Asian destinations, with Beijing, Hanoi, and Shanghai all breaking into the top 10 for the first time.

Other favourites, such as Sydney, fell 12 positions to 22, and San Francisco fell 18 places to 25. London, however, remains as popular as ever and maintains its number three position for the second year running. It was pipped to the top spots by Istanbul and Rome, taking first and second place respectively.

TripAdvisor spokesperson James Kay said: “It is interesting to see traditionally popular destinations Paris, New York and Barcelona drop down the rankings.

“This year’s results show that there are a number of destinations around the world that are starting to compete with the more traditional ones.

“However, London still continues to sustain its position in the top five and while there is no doubt the birth of the royal baby helped keep the eyes of the world on London in 2013, but the capital’s continued appeal among travellers around the world surpasses any one event.”

In the UK Awards, two seaside destinations crept into the top 10 this year. Torquay in Cornwall is in a very respectable third place, and Llandudno in Wales sits pretty in eighth place.

The awards were determined by an algorithm on the TripAdvisor website that took into account the quantity and quality of reviews and ratings for accommodation, attractions and restaurants gathered over a 12-month period.

Holiday trends 2014
Jan 6th, 2014 by elisa

Value for money is still top of most people’s priorities when booking a holiday in 2014, according to the Travel Trends Report 2014.

The report by ABTA and the Foreign Office predicts “cautious optimism” for the year ahead.

“We know that Brits hate to cut back on their holidays and after several years of tough market conditions, we are seeing early signs of more optimism amongst British consumers,” said ABTA chief executive Mark Tanzer.

“However, with the squeeze on household budgets continuing, we are expecting that tried and tested destinations and package holidays will continue to perform well in the coming year. We are also expecting a range of other overseas destinations to prove popular in 2014, as well as another good year for domestic tourism after the heatwave in the UK in summer 2013.”

The report includes a list of “destinations to watch” for 2014:

Great news for domestic tourism also; the feel-good-factor created by the Olympics and Jubilee in 2013’s sunny summer is likely to continue over into new year bookings.

Greece – fantastic villa rentals and award-winning beaches

Greece is most definitely one of the first places you would list if you have the primary holiday requirements of sun, sea and sand. It has this in spades (excuse the pun), but so much more to boot – cuisine, culture and history, not to mention the plethora of awards it has won as a travel destination.

The Sunday Times Travel Magazine voted Greece as the Best European Beach Destination 2012, followed by the Travel Agents’ Choice Awards 2012 for the Best Short Haul Destination for Weddings, Honeymoons and Couples. It also fares extremely well with TripAdvisor with many of its beaches in the Travellers’ Choice 2012 Beach Destinations.

The birthplace of the Olympic Games, Greece is a perfect place for an activity holiday, which could include cycling, rock climbing, basketball and water sports. For the less energetic of you, it’s also a wonderful place to relax, with stunning aquamarine waters and beautiful sandy beaches with a variety of coloured sands, from black, to white, to red – all of which make for unusual and picturesque landscapes.

Take the village of Lindos on the Greek island of Rhodes. Open year-round and with an exceptionally mild climate, this is a popular destination amongst tourists. It is a maze of narrow streets and small shops filled with unique jewellery, pottery, leather goods and regional crafts. The Acropolis dominates the landscape, and if you want the best view, then dine out at one of the village’s many rooftop restaurants at sunset.

With a great nightlife when you want to be sociable, and also with quieter spots for relaxation, it’s a box-ticker of a place for holidays. It’s also easy to get to, with affordable flights available throughout the year.

For a quiet getaway, try this luxury villa with infinity pool situated on the hillside above Kalathos village and a short trip to Lindos (6km). With 3 bedrooms (1 double, 2 twin), pool, air-conditioning, BBQ facilities and stylish interior design, you’d be forgiven for not wanting to leave! Prices start from £600.

British Airways will launch new weekend flights from Heathrow to Ibiza on 27th April this year. Flights will depart Heathrow on Saturdays at 11.15, returning at 15.30; they will also depart on Sundays at 07.05 and return at 11.15.

Flights cost from £66 one-way and are on sale now.

We have a range of affordable properties in the Spanish Balearic Islands to choose from. Ibiza is known as the party island, but it also has a beautiful and quiet side, perfect for a getaway for group and family holidays, or couple’s retreats.

A holiday here could be split in two, one half spent partying at the island’s many world-famous clubs, hanging out at the beach and variety of bars. Meanwhile, the other half could be spent exploring the woods, coastal walking trails and relaxing on some of the quieter and more secluded beaches.

Places such as Santa Eulària d’es Riu and the small resorts and coves of the northeast are ideal for family holidays. The island’s party season is mainly in July and August.
