Planning a villa holiday in Spain

Spain is one of the most popular destinations for a villa holiday. And it’s a perfect country for a villa rental: the weather is generally hot and sunny, and the coastline is fantastic. [Click through to our guide on Villaseek.com for info on the weather and average temperatures.]

You have a wide choice of regions in which to book a Spanish Villa Holiday. We’ve split our guide into regions – based around Spain’s coasts, since that is where most of the holiday villas are. The regions are: the Costa Brava, the Costa Blanca, Costa de Almería, Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz. You’ll find a massive range of holidays here — from holiday hotspots like Benidorm, to the more chilled out, family friendly towns like Denia.

The villas we have on Villaseek cover a wide variety of needs and tastes, but many are family-friendly, in quieter, secluded spots, or near to the beach. Some will have their own private pools.

Spain also has some fabulous island destinations. The Balearic islands comprise Menorca, Mallorca, Ibiza, and the small yet beautiful Formentera.

Further afield are the Canary Islands. They’re an autonomous community of Spain, but are much further South (to the West of Africa). These merit their own guide, which you can see on Villaseek.

New flights to Fuerteventura

It may have taken a 10 year break, but British Airways is reinstating flights to Fuerteventura from December 2014.

The flights will operate from Gatwick twice a week, all year round and start from 13th December. The route will be operated on Airbus A319 and A320 short-haul aircraft, which the airline announced would be receiving a new look in the cabin, featuring stylish new seats.

British Airways already serves the Canary Islands with flights to Lanzarote leaving twice a week and Tenerife flying seven times a week.

Villaseek has lots of villas in Fuerteventura, but how about checking this lovely two bedroom villa with private hot tub, sun terrace and panoramic view to Lanzarote!

Most family-friendly destinations

A survey of 2,000 British parents regarding the most family-friendly destinations in the world found Cornwall to be top of the list, with Orlando in Florida a close second.

The only reason Orlando was pipped to the post was because of the long flying time of around nine hours from the UK, otherwise, its world-famous theme parks and near-constant sunshine ranked extremely favourably for child-friendly holidays.

The Spanish islands of Majorca, Menorca and Tenerife, and the Costa Del Sol on the mainland made up the rest of the top ten for holidays abroad, with Devon, Somerset, Dorset and Isle of Wight for holidays in the UK.

Around eight in ten respondents said making sure a destination is child-friendly is their main priority when booking a holiday. Factors that contributed to a family-friendly holiday included nearby play areas, a good choice of food to cater for fussy eaters, and a shallow sea. Half of the parents polled said the ideal holiday destination must have nice beaches, and 28% said kids’ swimming pools are essential.

The study also found that the ideal holiday would last an average of 10 days, and involve less than five hours of travelling time, making many of the European destinations ideal for family breaks.
