The ‘Frankenstorm’ currently causing chaos over the east coast of the US has lead to the cancellation of near 6,000 flights today, with further disruptions also expected tomorrow.
British Airways has cancelled 19 flights, United Airlines has grounded all 14 US transatlantic flights (which totals nearly 4,700 total cancellations since Sunday), Virgin Atlantic has also cancelled 14 and Delta have scrapped three.
Flights to and from Washington are expected to restart today; however, other destinations such as Orlando and Boston are experiencing delays.
The financial impact on the airline industry is likely to cost millions, but it should not incur as much of a cost as the ash cloud crisis which hit Europe in 2010.
