A senior Qantas pilot has been suspended from duty after being suspected of being drunk before a flight.
Flight attendants on the Boeing 767 informed operations managers that they suspected the pilot had been drinking, with the decision to halt the flight from Sydney to Brisbane taken just minutes before take off. The aircraft had got as far as taxiing towards the runway before it was stopped.
The pilot allegedlyrecorded a positive reading for alcohol and has been suspended while Qantas launch an investigation.
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed that a captain had been “withheld from service for administrative reasons” last week but declined to comment further because the matter was under investigation.
