In a deal worth £7bn, Boeinghas sold nearly 100 aircraft, including eight of the new 787 Dreamliners, to Mexican airline Aeromexico.

The news came as Boeing announced a 3% rise in second quarter income to £625m and a 27% rise in commercial aircraft deliveries.

Chief executive Jim McNerney said: “Increased revenues and strong operating performance across both our major businesses drove significantly improved first-half 2012 results for Boeing.”

“Our defence, space and security business also produced higher revenues and strong margins in a difficult market environment”.

In addition to the 787-9 Dreamliners, Aeromexico will buy 90 Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft .
