When are you most likely to search for holidays? During a lunch break at work on a dreary Monday afternoon? Or at the weekend? It appears that many travel companies believe the latter, and pay to advertise on Google at the weekends in the hope of getting new customers. According to a new report, however, the most travel-related searches are on Mondays and decrease throughout the week.
The report by search marketing agency Greenlight, found that the fewest travel searches were made on Saturdays and Sundays. The company recorded and analysed consumers’ online behaviour on the randomly selected week beginning 14th May for its latest sector report. Steaming ahead with the most searches was Monday, followed by Wednesday and a decline until Sunday.
Greenlight looked at the advertising behaviour of four of the largest travel companies (First Choice, Low Cost Holidays, On The Beach, Travel Republic Thomas Cook and Thomson) and found they had similar bidding strategies for keywords on Google, but the majority had apparently not realised that Monday was the busiest day.
