Easyjet sponsors Jordan’s athletes
June 13th, 2012 by elisa

Jordan is the first country to make a budget airline its official Olympic Games carrier. Easyjet has been named the sponsor and will fly Jordan’s athletes and support staff between Amman and London, said the Financial Times.

This is the first time a UK airline has sponsored a foreign team. British Airways will fly some foreign athletes to London for the Games, but its only official sponsorship deals are with London 2012, Team GB and ParalympicsGB.

As part of its sponsorship deal, Easyjet expects to fly around 75 people on one of its three-times-weekly scheduled flights between Amman and London Gatwick, which was launched in March 2011.

Lana al-Jaghbeer, secretary-general of Jordan’s Olympic committee, said: “In today’s financial climate, sponsorship is crucial for our athletes and this contribution is very much appreciated by all.”
