February 21st, 2012 by elisa

Strike action in Frankfurt has already caused much travel disruption, and will cause more as it has been announced that strikes will continue until 11pm this Friday (24th February).

The strike began last Thursday, and is over demands for better pay for air traffic controllers, said their union GdF.

200 flights were cancelled by Lufthansa yesterday, with a further 160 expected today.

The airline said on its website: “Measures taken by Lufthansa and Fraport to limit the impact of strike actions on flight operations at Frankfurt airport are working out so that passengers can be provided with a reliable special timetable.”

Passengers are being offered refunds or the opportunity to rebook free of charge for flights cancelled by the strike, the airline said.

British Airways, which has already had to cancel several flights to Frankfurt is advising passengers to check the status of their flight before leaving for the airport.
