Lufthansa first to pass on emissions tax to customers
January 6th, 2012 by elisa

In further news regarding the new EU Emissions Trading Scheme, Lufthansa has become the first airline to admit that it will pass on the cost of the tax to customers by raising its air fares.

The airline estimates the cost of entering the ETS to be €130m a year and it said it had no choice but to pass the extra cost to passengers.

The cost will be included in Lufthansa’s fuel surcharge, which was raised from €3 to €10 on 15th December.
