Further earthquakes in Christchurch
June 13th, 2011 by elisa

There have been a series of violent aftershocks to the earthquake striken New Zealand city of Christchurch. The tremors began at 7.37am on Monday and continued throughout the day, with the biggest striking at 2.20pm. They have left at least six people seriously injured and caused power outages and flooding.

The largest tremor measured 6.0 on the Richter scale and was the biggest to hit Christchurch since the 6.3 earthquake on 22nd February, which caused 181 deaths.

The prime minister, John Key, promised citizens he’s determined to support Christchurch: “We stand beside them, we are committed to rebuilding the city,” he said.

“My heart really goes out to them.”
