Aer Lingus possible strikes next week
June 3rd, 2011 by elisa

Aer Lingus passengers will be keeping an eye on talks between the airline and the pilots’ union this week as the possibility of cancelling all flights from next Tuesday draws ever closer.

Earlier in the week pilots voted in favour of industrial action. The airline also claims the pilots’ decision not to work on rostered rest days or annual leave days and to report an hour late for duty could continue to disrupt flights throughout the summer.

Chief executive Christoph Mueller said: “This may lead to a full cancellation of operations from Tuesday June 7 unless IALPA/IMPACT stand down their action.”

“Should this action proceed, it will have a significant adverse effect on profitability, occurring as it does in the peak summer season,” the airline added in a statement.

Today further talks were held between the airline and union in order to come up with a solution should the strikes go ahead and there not be enough pilots to run the schedule. Aer Lingus is currently giving passengers due to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday the option to change the date of their flight for free on their website.
