Spanish airspace re-opened
December 6th, 2010 by elisa

This weekend saw chaos for flights due to go over Spanish airspace as air traffic controllers in the country called a wildcat strike. The government quickly called a state of alert which meant workers who refused to work would face prosecution, in the meantime the military took over the control of airports.

Spain’s airspace has re-opened but there are still going to be delays for passengers as the backlog is cleared. According to officials, around 250,000 people were impacted by the action, which was in protest over over working hours and conditions.

Around 20,000 Brits are believed to have been stranded by the strike. Ryanair, Iberia and other airlines cancelled all flights on Saturday but normal services have now been resumed.
