Greener planes deal for Cathay Pacific
September 17th, 2010 by elisa

In part of the airline’s largest single purchase to date, Cathay Pacific has bought 30 new wide-bodied A350-900 aircraft for £5 billion that will be delivered over a three-year period beginning at the start of 2016.

The A350s are powered by Rolls Royce Trent XWB engines that are designed to be greener as they burn less fuel than similar sized planes currently in use. They will mainly be used for long-haul destinations into Europe.

Chief executive Tony Tyler said of the purchase: “The A350 fits perfectly into our operation. Its passenger capacity, flight range and operating economics are just right to become the backbone of our mid-sized long haul wide-bodied fleet.”
