Ryanair boss grabs headlines again
September 7th, 2010 by elisa

Pilots claim it’s just another headline grabbing statement, and it’s worked as here it is – in an Interview with Bloombery Business Week magazine, Ryanair boss, Michael O’Leary said he didn’t see why it takes two pilots to fly a plane and is considering reducing it to one on Boeing 737’s.

His reasoning is that air stewards could stand in for the second pilot in an emergency.

Not surprisingly, pilots have dismissed the idea as ‘unwise and unsafe’ and The British Airline Pilots’ Association said the public would be ‘horrified’.

Fortunately, like many of O’Leary’s more surprising ideas such as charging passengers for using loos onboard and standing room-only flights, this one will most probably be blocked by the regulatory authorities – let’s hope so!
