BAA and Unite meet today
August 16th, 2010 by elisa

The travel industry and travellers due to go on holiday throughout August are awaiting the result from a meeting between conciliation service Acas and BAA and Unite the union today to see if strike action has been averted.

Talks began at midday at an undisclosed location and at the time of writing no result had been announced.

A BAA spokesman said: “We hope that we can quickly conclude an agreement, in the interests of the travelling public, our airlines and our staff, the majority of whom did not vote for a strike.”

If a strike does go ahead 6 of the UK’s largest airports including London Heathrow and Stanstead could be as early as the 23rd August, just before the UK Bank Holiday the following week.
