Gatwick’s new shuttle link
July 1st, 2010 by elisa

Today marked the opening of a new shuttle link between Gatwick’s North and South terminals. It’s part of a £1billion pound investment in the airport by the new owners Global Infrastructure Partners.

The £43m project includes a newly refurbished track, an upgrade of the terminal stations, new shuttle cars which are fully accessible for passengers with reduced mobility, and a sensory device which will count the number of passengers waiting at the station to trigger the shuttle.

The link was opened today, two months ahead of schedule, by NASA astronaut and member of the Gatwick Borad James von Hoften.

The investment is to be rolled out over the next three years and will focus on an upgrade of the South terminal departure lounge, security areas, immigration halls and baggage systems.
