Can’t do without the internet while on holiday?
June 9th, 2010 by elisa

Gone are the days of going on holiday to get away from it all, according to a new survey conducted by broadband comparison website Broadband Expert which has found that most people intend on accessing the internet when abroad.

A huge 94% of the 842 people asked said they couldn’t bear to be without social network sites like Facebook and Twitter and their email accounts. Just under half (47%) said they would use their mobile phone to access the web while away.

The survey also showed that 22% of holidaymakers would find an internet café to get their internet hit, 17% will use a laptop and mobile broadband dongle and 8% will use wifi.

A tiny 6% said they would not look at the internet at all whilst away.

Broadband Expert commercial director Rob Webber said: “The growth in popularity of smart-phones has made it much easier and more convenient for more consumers to get online while abroad.

“Couple this with the pull of social media networking, and it seems us Brits are keen to stay connected to the Internet even while taking a well deserved break.”

He added: “The fact that just 6% of people say they wouldn’t get online shows that Brits can’t bear to be away from sites like Facebook, Twitter, news sites and email; which have become part of the daily routine for so many of us.”

I wonder what readers of this blog think about this statistic, is it a true reflection of travellers attitudes? Personally I prefer to be incommunicado when I’m on holiday, as I like to have holidays that mean I get away from my every day life and experience new things or just relax without the intrusion of the ‘outside world’.
