BA strike on 24th May
May 21st, 2010 by elisa

Unite has confirmed that the first five days of strike action at British Airways will start from Monday, 24th May.

Joint general secretaries Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley said: “British Airways management now has a chance over the next three days to address our outstanding concerns and seize the possibility for industrial peace. We hope it has the wisdom to do so.

“Failing that, cabin crew will once more be taking industrial action with our full support.”

BA has already been notified that further strike action will take place for five days from 30th May and five days from 5th June, should there be no settlement to the dispute, Unite said.

BA chief executive Willie Walsh, has posted a message to passengers following the appeal court decision, see it here.

The news come as it has been reported that BA are in financial turmoil as they announce pre-tax losses of £531 million for the year ending March 31. This compares with a loss of £401 million a year earlier and came despite £1 billion in costs being stripped out.

The results do not cover the impact of the April ash crisis and recent cabin crew strike action but takes into account to global economic downturn and a slump in business travel.
