Unite to pursue legal action against BA contracts
November 3rd, 2009 by elisa

Following on from my previous blog regarding the likely British Airways Christmas strikes over proposed job cuts; it is now reported that legal action is being taken out by a union to try to stop them imposing contractual changes on 14,000 cabin crew without agreement.

The High Court challenge by Unite is over the imposition of new contracts, including the reduction of crewing levels, which BA will introduce on 16th November. The union is seeking an injunction against this imposition. The High Court hearing is currently set for this Thursday (5th November).

A mass meeting of cabin crew was held yesterday (2nd November) at Sandown racecourse, where Unite fed back information to members on why negotiations with the airline have stalled.

“Unite continues to seek a negotiated solution and remains willing to begin talks with the company at any time” a statement said.

In response to the above post British Airways cabin crew are now to be balloted on strike action over job losses and changes to working conditions. The ballot of BA’s 14,000 cabin crew will open next Monday (16th November) and close on 14th December, according to the Unite union.

The union says the ballot has been called in response to BA’s determination to force through the package of measures including contractual changes without agreement. Unite claims the airline has failed to consult properly on 2,000 notified redundancies. It is also determined to impose “fundamental changes” to working practices, work organisation and terms and conditions of employment.

If you want the public on your side you need to publish more info.
Everyone is having to change their working lives (Except the Banks but more of that another time)
My question is: “What are the managers and directors doing ie are they changing their pay and perks? Down of course. If not then I support the union, if they are, then is is comparable to the sacrifices being asked of the union staff?
    More info please. Not propaganda.
