Gatwick Sale to open up competition
October 22nd, 2009 by elisa

Following on from yesterday’s news that Gatwick airport has been sold, Cheapflights global sales director Francesca Ecsery announced that she welcomes the news of the Global Infrastructure Partners’ (GIP) purchase of Gatwick, stating that it will create more competition between airports in the South East.

“GIP has done a fantastic job with London City Airport, helping to make it one of the most efficient and customer-friendly airports in the UK,” she said.

“Gatwick is the busiest single runway airport in the world and consumers have long waited for improvements to their experience when flying from there. By selling Gatwick, BAA is opening up competition in the South East. Having Britain’s two busiest airports owned by separate interests is a good thing for consumers. We now hope to see GIP invest in improvements to London Gatwick which will aid consumers’ ‘end to end’ experience of flying via the airport.”
