Kuoni is working with environmental organisation Green Cross International to back an expedition along India’s Ganges river. The 35-day trip will raise the awareness of the environmental threats to one of the world’s most important rivers.

An international team of experts, led by Swiss adventurer Andy Leeman will travel 1,500 miles from the river’s source in the Himalayas to the Bay of Bengal, using inflatable boats. During the trip they will assess how the withdrawal of water, climate change and pollution is affecting the Ganges. The findings of the expedition will be presented at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.

As part of its commitment to corporate responsibility, Kuoni has put up money for the trip to happen. “We are convinced we can raise awareness and work towards our goal of protecting people and the environment at destinations,” said Matthias Leisinger, head of corporate responsibility for the Kuoni group.
